This year, 2020, is the year to be with close friends and family. Together, we’ve all been safer at home. So many of our plans and vacations have been cancelled and postponed. We’ve all adapted and so we could keep those around us as safe and healthy as possible. 

As everyone has been at home, we have missed our campers and guests enjoying camp. Camp has always been a place designed to be set apart from the rest of the world and give all those who come onto it’s grounds a chance to rest, relax, and reconnect.So this summer we reimagined our programming to fit families better.  

For the past three weeks we have been hosting summer Family Getaways, and it has been so much fun! We could go on and on about how much we love these and the families who have been a part of it, but don’t just take our word for it. Here are five things families are saying about their Getaways and five reasons why a Getaway may be perfect for you! 

“This was a way for our kids to experience Covenant Harbor in a safe way and experience it WITH US for the first time!” 

These Getaways were designed and programmed for families. We have all felt the stress of being together in close quarters for so long, so this has been the needed change of pace and place. The best part is this is a camp experience for everyone to make precious family memories together. 

“We needed some time and space away from home. My kids also needed to have fun with mom! We’ve all been together, but it’s been stressful. My kids got to laugh and play with mom. We created memories together that we will always hold close.” 

“Let kids be kids” is one of our main goals for every summer, and this summer we like to say “let everyone be a kid!” Parents, this is the perfect time to leave your normal responsibilities at home and just have fun. We know the value of family play time and these weekends have been planned to give your family plenty of space to play, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company.

“Seeing how happy my kids were. After having limited social interactions the last few months, this week at camp has given them such happiness. It was also great to see my two kids bond over the last week. My two sons have always been the two in the family that bickered the most. Being here with their friends has brought them closer. Family bonding, a bit of normalcy for kids, and a meaningful week at bible camp. This is a week we won’t forget!” 

This is a chance to get your kids out of their normal and out of their comfort zone. A getaway can be a chance for you to break down some walls and bond with each other, to really connect and grow together. Camp is great at creating space for transformations to happen. The unique setting, away from stress and schedules, allows people to detach from their worries and make room for a breath. 

“This week meant reconnecting in God’s creation after a stressful spring season, and an opportunity for our kids to be connected in a spiritual community during a time where online church prevents them from connecting physically with other Christ followers.” 

Like so many of you, we have been longing for community and fellowship with others. We have missed our church families and the times to gather together in worship. Although these Getaways are not a church, they are a way to reconnect as a family to the Lord. Paul wrote in Romans 1:20, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” We see God through His creation. Come delight in the Lord in the middle of His creation for a while, reconnect with Him, and be surrounded not only by creation but a community of believers. 

“Thankful for the opportunity to be together  and be away from home at a beautiful place. It will be a great memory. Please do this again next summer!” 

We’ve enjoyed these Family Getaways as much as our families. That’s why we’re going to keep doing them! If your family didn’t get a chance to participate in a Getaway this summer, or you just can’t wait to come back, this is your chance!
