Our staff are at the heart of our mission, ensuring that campers know they are loved, cared for while at camp and that they get to hear the gospel from staff who are committed to helping campers grow in their faith. This past summer we had an incredible summer staff team and are excitedly building another great team for 2024. With summer camp registration opening this month, we wanted to share why our summer staff make such a difference at Covenant Harbor.

Summer staff play a huge role in the fellowship and friendships built during the week. An overnight camper parent reported the joy her daughter experienced because of the cabin community that was built by the counselor. She said, “She came home raving about her counselors and her cabin mates and how much fun she had with all of them. She was just over the moon and didn’t want the week to end.” The bonding that happens and the memories made are driven by the friendships at camp and the counselors get to be at the center of that. 

Not only do summer staff impact the campers but they play a role in the whole family experience. A camper mom wrote to us about the impact the staff had on her entire family. “When face to face interaction is becoming more and more rare, the effort to have staff connect with the parents and for hosting a dinner for families means the world,” she said. We know that camp is a transformative experience for campers, but it can hold deep meaning for the family as well.  

Covenant Harbor participated in a research study this summer with the Christian Camp and Conference Association that took a deep dive into the impact summer camp had on campers. We are proud that the number one thing that our campers said they enjoyed about summer camp was the relationship they had with their counselor. Summer staff are a big part of the summer camp experience and we are committed to hiring quality staff and diligent training to provide excellent summer camp programs for campers and their families.
