After the Mountaintop

Continuing Discipleship After Winter Camp for Church Leaders

There’s something sacred about camp in the winter.

For a few short days, campers step away from their normal routines and distractions and experience something different; unhurried worship, honest conversations, laughter around the table, adventure in creation, and moments of deepened relationship with others and God. Many describe camp as a mountaintop experience, a place where faith feels clear, community feels strong, and hearts feel open.

But what happens when the vans and cars pull away, phones turn back on, and everyday life resumes? At Covenant Harbor, we believe camp isn’t meant to be the destination, it’s meant to be a starting point.

Camp Is the Seed

Winter Camp creates space for campers to hear God’s voice without the noise of daily life. Through worship, teaching, cabin conversations, and shared adventure, many campers learn more about who God is and what God has done, grow their trust in God, or the courage to ask questions. Those moments matter deeply. But camp is just part of life-long lasting discipleship, and the church can play a role in that!

Helping Students Bring Camp Home

One of the most powerful things campers can do after camp is tell someone what God did in their life, a youth leader, a pastor, a parent, or a trusted mentor. Naming what they experienced helps them recognize that God is still at work, even as they head home. Churches can help by creating intentional space for reflection after the Winter Camp experience:

  • Invite campers to share stories during youth group or Sunday worship
  • Use small groups to talk through what stood out from camp teaching and discussions
  • Encourage journaling or prayer rhythms that started at camp

When campers are reminded that their church cares about what God is doing in their lives, camp becomes part of an ongoing faith story, not just a great memory.

Turning Momentum into Daily Faith

After camp, it’s common for campers to feel both energized and overwhelmed. They want to hold on to what they experienced but aren’t always sure how. Youth leaders can help by connecting camp themes to everyday discipleship:

  • Revisit key scriptures or messages from Winter Camp
  • Continue the conversations students started at camp back at home
  • Encourage simple spiritual practices: daily prayer, scripture reading, serving others

Discipleship is an ongoing process in our lives, including camp moments and  through small moments and faithfulness in everyday life.

We’re In This Together

Covenant Harbor exists to partner with our faith community to raise up the next generation of disciples. Winter Camp is one meaningful chapter but the story continues long after campers head home. As campers lives pick back up after the first weekend of Winter Camp, our prayer is simple:

That the joy, clarity, and faith experienced during a weekend at camp would take root and that God would continue His good work in the weeks, months, and years ahead.

If you’d like help continuing the conversation, our team is always here to support you. Because when camp and church walk together, discipleship doesn’t end; it multiplies. CONTACT US
